TraffiCage

Activity Monitoring of Individuals in Social Groups

TraffiCage is an innovative tool specially designed for the surveillance and activity monitoring of group housed individuals in an social home cage setup like e.g. PhenoWorld. Each animal carries a transponder with a unique tag number. As animals roam through the cage, their position is detected by RFID antennas and stored for analysis.

Features

  • Transponder based activity monitoring under group housing
  • Activity detection independent of lighting conditions
  • Indirect social interaction monitor

Application

Spontaneous activity monitoringThe spontaneous activity of the mice was measured on the 1st and 15th day of the treatment with a special, innovative radiofrequency identification system (RFID-system)—TraffiCage (TSE-Systems, Germany). The test was conducted according to the method described in the literature [ 11 – 13 ]. The animals had the transmitter (RFID) subcutaneously implanted, which tracked the time they spent in different areas of the cage. The data obtained were then grouped in a spe
