RB Series Response Pads

The current USB-based, RB-x40 models represent the fifth generation of response pads in this series. All the improvements are based on customer feedback. The result is high quality, ergonomic, and practical response pads that are compatible with all major stimulus presentation packages

Cedrus RB Series Response Pads

Ergonomic, Practical, and Compatible Response Pads

World’s Most Popular

The RB Series response pads’ popularity continues to grow, for a reason. Or three. Continually improved since 1993, the current RB-x40 models represent the fifth generation of response pads in this series. Among its features:

  Wide Application Support
Compatible with SuperLab, E-Prime, Presentation, and others (see below)

  Library Support
Open source C++ and Python libraries available

Replaceable Key Tops
Customize the response pad for any experiment (see below)

      Built-In I/O
It’s like getting a free I/O device that can send 8 bits of TTL output.

     USB
Compatible with Mac OS and Windows. Linux support available from third party.

       Light Sensor Support
Record precisely the onset of visual stimuli and even have it reset the built-in timer.

Key Layouts for Different Applications

One size does not fit all, our users told us. So we offer different models based on their feedback.

RB-740 Layout

RB-740

The most popular and general purpose model, suitable for Likert scale, yes/no, and other types of experiments.

RB-840 Layout

RB-840

Ergonomic, allows eight fingers at the same time to be resting on keys.

RB-540 Layout

RB-540

Designed for experiments that involve spatial orientation.

RB-844 Layout

RB-844

Kids love the big buttons, as do older participants. Also suitable for experiments involving spatial orientation.

Why Use a Response Pad?

A keyboard works, but a response pad works way better.

Better Timing Resolution

The RB Series response pads offer 2-3 millisecond reaction time resolution. By contrast, USB keyboards’ resolution is around 10 to 12 milliseconds, and PCs using PS2 keyboards have a resolution between 20 and 35 milliseconds.

Simpler

The 100+ keys found on keyboards confuse participants. Reaction time data is not useful if they spend time looking for the right key.

Simplicity means better quality RT data.

Customizable

Replaceable key tops make it even simpler and easier for participants to follow instructions (e.g. press green key if correct) and further improves the quality of collected reaction times.

Replaceable Key Tops

This remarkable and unique feature gives you, the investigator, new ways to customize the response pad for your particular experiment. Use all four colored tops in a Stroop experiment, or use the red and green tops to simplify instructions to participants, e.g. “press the green key if faces are the same, red if they are not”.

You can even display your instructions, literally, on the response pad. Print any text or graphic, on plain white or colored paper, and insert it under a clear top.

The tops can be removed without a tool. Every model includes red, green, blue, yellow, and clear tops for all keys except the round button on the RB-530.
