This Tissue Chopper has been designed to prepare pieces of tissue for metabolic experiments and to be especially applicable to small and irregular specimens available at biopsy from small organs.
This device has been designed to minimize disturbance of cell structure.
Slices up to 1mm thick and cubes or prisms up to 1mm cross-section can be prepared with the chopper quickly and easily (around 30 seconds). Step-less adjustment can be made allowing slice thickness to be adjusted from zero to 1mm by means of an indexing clutch and micrometer head (calibrated in microns).
The specimen is placed on a circular stainless-steel table. The table is automatically moved in relation to the cutting blade, the speed of movement is adjustable. At the same time the cutting blade is raised and lowered (by means of it’s own weight combined with the torsion of a spring). The speed of the blade is adjustable from zero to over 200 cycles per minute. As the table passes the blade the tissue is chopped to the required thickness. If prisms are required, the table is turned through 45 degrees when is reaches the side and the process is repeated. If cubes are required the table is rotated by 90 degrees.
